Air Pollution Forecast from Imperial College London Environmental Research Group
Today
Issued:
19/06/2025 09:49:52
Pollution Band:
Moderate
Details
Warm and sunny on Thursday with a high pressure system firmly established over the UK. Temperatures are forecast to reach 30C by evening.
Air arriving may pass close to the near continent briefly before arriving from the east, however it will have originated in the Atlantic and so is expected to be relatively 'clean'. There is likely to be poor dispersion during the day with little wind activity, allowing some build-up of local emissions. Any build-up is expected to clear by evening as a breeze picks up.
Ground-level ozone is formed in the atmosphere through complex reactions between precursor pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and carbon monoxide (CO), under the influence of heat and ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight. As a result 'Moderate' ozone levels are expected as sunshine and high temperatures act on local pollution during the day.
Air pollution is expected to remain 'Low' for the following pollutants:
PM10 Particulates
PM2.5 Particulates
Nitrogen Dioxide
Sulphur Dioxide

Details
Warm and sunny on Friday with a high pressure system centered to the east of the UK. Temperatures are forecast to reach into the high 20s, possibly 30C by evening.
The air feed will have originated in the Atlantic before looping back around, passing over the near continent and then arriving from the east. It is expected to be relatively 'clean' due to its Atlantic origin. Although, some pollution may be present due to the brief time spent passing over urban and industrial sources on the near continent, in addition to London's own emissions. A light breeze during the day should help to disperse local emissions.
As a result 'Moderate' ozone levels are likely as sunshine and high temperatures act on any pollution present during the day.
Air pollution is expected to remain 'Low' for the following pollutants:
PM10 Particulates
PM2.5 Particulates
Nitrogen Dioxide
Sulphur Dioxide
The Ealing 8 monitoring site on Horn Lane, Acton forms part of an investigation of the local PM10 sources at this location. The site is affected by specific local sources of PM10 particulate and it is not representative of other areas within the Borough. Horn Lane will have increased levels of particulate matter that will not be representative of rest of the borough.
How to use the Daily Air Quality Index *
- Step 1: Determine whether you (or your children) are likely to
be at-risk from air pollution. Your doctor may also be able to give you advice.
- Step 2: If you may be at-risk, and are planning strenuous activity
outdoors, check the air pollution forecast.
- Step 3: Use the health messages corresponding to the highest forecast
level of pollution as a guide.
