Air Pollution Forecast from Imperial College London Environmental Research Group
Today
Issued:
07/08/2022 09:35:03
Pollution Band:
Moderate
Details
Further settled weather for Monday, with long spells of sunshine and temperatures peaking in the high-20s during the afternoon.
Air mass back-trajectories show air that has passed at low altitude over central England arriving in London for much of Monday. This air is likely to carry some longer-range pollutants that will react with London's own emissions in the heat and sunshine to form ground level ozone. In suburban locations, there is potential for 'Moderate' levels of ozone to develop during the afternoon.
Air pollution is currently expected to remain 'Low' for the following pollutants throughout the forecast period:
Nitrogen Dioxide
PM10 Particulate
PM2.5 Particulate
Sulphur Dioxide
Outlook
Issued:
07/08/2022 09:49:08
Start:
Tuesday 9 August
Finish:
end of Tuesday 9 August
Pollution Band:
Low
Details
Further very warm, sunny weather is forecast for Tuesday, with temperatures reaching the high-20s by the afternoon.
As in recent days, ground level ozone will form as air pollutants react photochemically in the strong sunshine. However, this is not currently expected to develop into an episode as the air arriving in London will have travelled at high altitude over the North Sea and will not carry enough of the precursor pollutants required for strong ozone formation.
Air pollution is currently expected to remain 'Low' for the following pollutants throughout the forecast period:
Nitrogen Dioxide
Ozone
PM10 Particulate
PM2.5 Particulate
Sulphur Dioxide
The Ealing 8 monitoring site on Horn Lane, Acton forms part of an investigation of the local PM10 sources at this location. The site is affected by specific local sources of PM10 particulate and it is not representative of other areas within the Borough. Horn Lane will have increased levels of particulate matter that will not be representative of rest of the borough.
How to use the Daily Air Quality Index *
- Step 1: Determine whether you (or your children) are likely to
be at-risk from air pollution. Your doctor may also be able to give you advice.
- Step 2: If you may be at-risk, and are planning strenuous activity
outdoors, check the air pollution forecast.
- Step 3: Use the health messages corresponding to the highest forecast
level of pollution as a guide.
