Bonfires and Barbecues
It is not illegal for Ealing residents to have bonfires or barbecues as these are not banned under the Clean Air Act , however if you create a lot of smoke you would be causing statutory nuisance. Offenders can be fined £5,000 (£20,000 for industrial, trade or business premises).
It is advised that you consider use of other fuel alternatives for barbecues such as gas.
Open Fireplaces
As Ealing borough falls under Smoke Control Area, if you are using open fireplace you should only burn smokeless fuels. Burning of coal, wood or other non-authorised fuels on open fires is banned.
You can reduce emissions from your fireplace by ensuring it is properly maintained and your chimney is swept regularly.
